The NLM team
At Northern Light Microscopy, our team is driven by a passion to empower life-science labs and companies to unlock bioscience discovery through innovative and advanced imaging technology. With expertise spanning across advanced microscopy, optical engineering, and bioscience research, we are dedicated to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in microscopy solutions.
The leadership team
Peter is Co-Founder and CEO of Northern Light Microscopy, which he spun out from the University of Strathclyde in 2024.
Holding a PhD from Strathclyde, he specializes in novel super-resolution hardware for bioscience applications. Supported by top accelerators and a RAEng Enterprise Fellowship, Peter leverages his extensive network to drive NLM’s commercial mission, strategy, and execution.
Ralf is NLM’s CTO and a Reader at the University of Strathclyde. He co-founded NLM in 2024 following fundamental research projects in optical microscopy and microsystems.
Bringing over 15 years of expertise in optical imaging, sensing, and MEMS, Ralf leads NLM’s technology strategy and product development, shaping the innovative roadmap that underpins the company’s core mission.
Colin is Chair and Non-Executive Director at Northern Light Microscopy, bringing deep expertise in venture building, board leadership, and commercial strategy. He has guided numerous health-tech and deep-tech companies from early stages to successful growth and exit.
Drawing on leadership experience at Oxford Science Enterprises, Pioneer Group, Voxar, Barco, and Toshiba, Colin supports NLM’s strategic roadmap and market growth.
